Facelift procedures are becoming increasingly common for both men and women in today’s world. While there is no “fountain of youth” to completely restore our teenage appearance or keep it that way, our patients in Atlanta and surrounding Georgia areas find that a Facelift is one of many procedures that can help combat the effects of the passage of time and help keep you looking as young as you feel.
It is a fact of life that as we age, our skin becomes less and less taut. Exposure to the sun, pollutants in the air, and gravity all weaken the elasticity of our facial tissue, and even our faces themselves betray us, as the substances under our skin break down on their own. There are certainly many things we can do to help slow this process, including healthy diets, regular exercise, limiting sun exposure and using sunscreen; but nothing can stop it completely.
At our office in Atlanta, Georgia, we offer full Facelift procedures that can “turn back the clock” on the effects of aging. A Facelift, also known as rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that tightens and smoothes wrinkled and loose facial skin. Particularly useful for eliminating excess skin around the cheeks, jowls, and neck, facelifts can create a younger looking face with a more defined jaw line. At Dr. Whiteman’s office in Atlanta, Facelift procedures are often done in conjunction with browlift surgery or eyelid surgery to reveal a face that looks years younger. Please consider our facial rejuvenation package, an excellent supplement for patients following Facelift procedures.
A mini Facelift or rapid recovery lift involves giving a lift to the lower third of the face and neck, and can occasionally be performed in the office under local anesthesia or in the operating room under general anesthesia. This minimally-invasive procedure is unique in its flexibility and can be specifically tailored to the problem areas of the neck, jowls, or mid-face through smaller, hidden incisions. The mini Facelift is able to restore a youthful appearance to the face while requiring a shorter recovery time for the patient. Mini facelifts are sometimes referred to as a "weekend procedure," as that is the normal post-operative recovery time for the surgery. For patients who do not have major skin laxity in the face and neck, a mini Facelift may be the ideal option.
Like a mini- Facelift, a mid-Facelift offers a much shorter recovery time than a full Facelift, yet can offer patients a drastic revitalization of the facial appearance. An endoscopic mid-Facelift is performed by creating tiny incisions at the hairline and within the mouth, and repositioning the fat pads in your cheeks up and over the cheekbones. This procedure is often performed in conjunction with a browlift or eyelid surgery for optimal results.

Patients with excess, hanging skin or fat along their chin and neck can benefit from necklift surgery. Depending on the patient’s specific needs and desires, necklift surgery can be combined with a mini facelift or full facelift procedure for more extensive rejuvenation. During a necklift procedure, liposuction through a small cannula removes excess fat from the chin and neck. Then, the sagging skin is excised and underlying muscles are tightened to produce a more aesthetically pleasing appearance.
Whether as a result of age, weight loss, or other factors, sagging skin under the chin and around the neck often makes us look much older than we are. While neck lift surgery may be an appropriate procedure for those with more advanced signs of aging, individuals with mild to moderate skin laxity around the neck may want a less invasive option. The iGuide® minimally invasive neck lift could be the answer.
Dr. David Whiteman uses the iGuide® technique to weave sutures beneath the epidermis of the skin to tighten and lift the tissue and muscle that begins to sag as we age. Through small perforations along the jawline and chin, a continuous thread supports the underlying tissues along the neckline to give you a more defined silhouette with immediate and lasting results and less downtime than a traditional neck lift.
Because there are no incisions, only small perforations, most patients are able to return to work within a few days and can resume physical exercise within two weeks. Ideal iGuide® candidates are individuals with mild to moderate signs of aging below the chin and those who may want a touch-up a few years after a previous cosmetic surgery procedure. Men and women can take advantage of the benefits of iGuide® and even younger individuals who are unhappy with their neck or jawline. Southern Plastic Surgery is the most experienced practice in Atlanta with the iGuide® neck lift. To determine if iGuide® is right for you, schedule a consultation with Dr. Whiteman.
