Dr. David M. Whiteman is a double board-certified cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgeon who has served the Atlanta community for 30 years and counting. Dr. Whiteman specializes in performing a large variety of cosmetic and reconstructive procedures for the face, body, and breasts. He currently serves as Gwinnett Medical Center’s Chief of Plastic Surgery and the Chief of Surgical Services at Gwinnett Medical Center – Duluth. At his practice, Southern Plastic Surgery, Dr. Whiteman prides himself on offering each patient the skilled, professional care and discretion they deserve. Dr. Whiteman also owns and operates Laser Lights Cosmetic Laser Center, an Atlanta area medical spa specializing in non-surgical cosmetic treatments including cosmetic laser services, non-surgical fat reduction, skin treatment services, and more.
Dr. Whiteman received his medical degree from the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, Canada. He then completed his plastic surgery residency at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto and the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. After which, Dr. Whiteman proceeded to Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. to complete his Fellowship training in advanced cosmetic surgery and breast reconstruction techniques.
Dr. Whiteman is double board-certified as a plastic surgeon by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. He also holds membership in the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). Dr. Whiteman is a board of trustee member of the Gwinnett Hospital Authority and a member of the ASAPS National Patient Safety Committee. Additionally, Dr. Whiteman is an active member of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS), the world’s foremost resource for cosmetic laser research, safety, education and clinical knowledge.

He has traveled the globe to speak at conferences on a number of topics including his signature surgical techniques like the Scarpa fascia tummy tuck for waist enhancement. Over the years, Dr. Whiteman has also mentored many young medical professionals as interns at Southern Plastic Surgery. He has been featured on several local and nationally syndicated television programs including “The Real Housewives of Atlanta”, “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen”, and TLC’s “Family by the Ton.”
In addition to his work as a plastic surgeon, Dr. Whiteman has started and takes part in various charitable causes in the Atlanta area that benefit breast cancer patients and survivors including Life after the Fight, an interactive business directory that helps breast cancer survivors make connections in the professional world. Dr. Whiteman created a “buddy system” for his breast reconstruction patients to discuss their journeys from diagnosis to recovery. He also served on the board of directors for The Sport of Giving, a non-profit organization in Atlanta that has raised over $1.3 million for women’s cancer care and prevention.
