Dr.-David-Whiteman-photoPlastic surgery used to be a somewhat taboo subject. Despite how much someone wanted to pursue plastic surgery as a way to improve their appearance, there was still a social stigma about discussing plastic surgery for many people. Thankfully, those days are long gone. And as society generally has gotten more comfortable being open about plastic surgery, the need for experts like myself to be able to answer even more questions about plastic surgery procedures from a wider variety of prospective patients has only grown. So in the spirit of openness and clarity, I wanted to answer common questions about a variety of plastic surgery topics including eyelid surgery, breast lift surgery, and the mini tummy tuck.

Question #1: Will I be awake during my eyelid surgery procedure?

Eyelid surgery can be performed using either a local anesthetic (where the patient is still awake during surgery) or a general anesthetic (where the patient is asleep during the procedure). This depends on the patient’s preference, as well as the specific nature of their procedure, and what the plastic surgeon thinks is best. I discuss anesthesia options during eyelid surgery consultations in my office.

Question #2: Is it possible to have a breast lift with fat transfer for the breasts?

Combining a breast lift procedure with breast enhancement to achieve more comprehensive recontouring of the breasts is extremely common. And while this is typically done with traditional breast augmentation using implants, it is possible to undergo a breast lift with fat transfer for the breasts instead. Doing so can provide a modest increase in breast volume, while rounding out the upper portion of the breast.

Question #3: Does a mini tummy tuck mean that there will be no scar after surgery?

No, even less invasive plastic surgery procedures like the mini tummy tuck will leave some degree of post-surgical scarring. However, scarring after a mini tummy tuck is less than that left after a traditional tummy tuck procedure. This is due to the smaller surgical incision required to perform a mini tummy tuck. It is important to note that scarring after both procedures can easily be concealed below your undergarments or bathing suit. I always discuss potential scarring and post-surgical care during tummy tuck consultations in my office.
