happy-woman-and-man-at-the-beachSummer is here, which can mean a great many things to smile about. It’s no secret that many people work hard to look their best during this time of year. Anyone wanting to boost their appearance and self-esteem this summer may be interested in learning more about the selection of cosmetic surgery procedures and nonsurgical cosmetic treatments that I perform at Southern Plastic Surgery. Below, I was happy to take some time to answer a few common questions about common summer season cosmetic procedures.

Question #1: Will it take all summer to recover from a liposuction procedure?

Thankfully, no. Always in high demand, undergoing liposuction during the summer is very common for a couple of reasons. First, there are some people who choose the summer for plastic surgery so they can easily take time off to recuperate. Second, many people strive to achieve their best body contours this time of year for trips to the beach and pool. All this may vary depending on the specific area(s) being treated and how much fat removal is needed, but recovery after liposuction is not typically that long. In most cases, you may see noticeable improvements between 2-3 weeks after liposuction once most of your post-surgical swelling has subsided. And results will continue to improve from that point on as long as you do your part and continue to eat healthy and get regular exercise.

Question #2: How can breast surgery help prepare people for summer?

When breast surgery during the summer months comes up, many women think of breast enhancement to help increase breast volume and better fill out their swimsuits. However, undergoing breast lift surgery this time of year can also provide very significant aesthetic and emotional benefits. Breast lift surgery can be helpful for women who have experienced weight loss or general aging, by relieving breast sagging and providing better-positioned breasts. A breast lift can help summer clothes and swimsuits fit better and provide natural support to the breasts. Additionally, male breast reduction for gynecomastia is also extremely common this time of year. This procedure helps men with what is sometimes referred to as man boobs. During surgery, I am able to remove excess glandular tissue from the chest, and can provide a massive boost in self-esteem for men of all ages.

Question #3: Will intense sunlight prevent me from undergoing eyelid surgery during the summer?

It shouldn’t. While it’s true that precautions must be taken in the days after an eyelid surgery procedure to protect your face and eye area from the sun, it’s a fact that many people undergo this procedure during the summer because the downtime is minimal. While it’s true that increased temperatures and humidity can lead to slightly more swelling after eyelid surgery, protecting this area with sunscreen, a wide brim hat, and a good pair of sunglasses will not prevent you from being outside in the weeks following surgery. And eyelid surgery recovery is often faster and easier than most patients realize, generally taking 1-2 weeks to heal.

In my experience, there is no such thing as a bad time to want to look and feel your best, but the start of summer can provide the motivation that many people need to take the final step towards cosmetic rejuvenation.
