The term “body contouring” is something you see more and more these days when discussing plastic surgery. While some people may believe that these procedures, aimed to help trim, sculpt, or modify some area of a person’s body, may appeal more to female patients, this is actually far from the truth. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, 3 of the 5 most common plastic surgeries for men last year were body contouring procedures. To help explain how body contouring can help men improve their physique and feel better about their appearance, I have answered a few questions about common body contouring surgeries for male patients:

body contouring for menQuestion #1: Can liposuction help treat my male breast enlargement, or will another procedure be required?
This depends on the root cause of why your breasts are enlarged. For some guys, there may just be excess fat in their chest area. In such cases, liposuction can provide the substantial results they desire. However, true gynecomastia is caused by excess breast tissue (not fat), meaning liposuction will not be able to help. For these men, male breast reduction surgery will be required.

Question #2: Which areas do men commonly get treated with liposuction?
Liposuction is hugely popular for both men and women, however the areas that are commonly addressed during surgery may vary. In my experience, male lipo patients are concerned about reducing fat from their flanks (love handles), abdomen, and around their neck to treat the appearance of a double chin.

Question #3: Which men can benefit from tummy tuck surgery?
Good male tummy tuck candidates include guys who experience loose skin and separated muscles in their abdominal area in addition to excess fat. They should be in good mental and physical health and begin their tummy tuck journey with a positive attitude and realistic expectations. Additionally, it’s important for men to reach their goal weight before surgery, as there will not be considerable weight loss achieved with this procedure.

Men today have a wide variety of outstanding cosmetic procedures to choose from. The procedures mentioned above are just a few of the popular body contouring options I perform on male patients interested in rejuvenating some area of their body.
