Dr-WhitemanPost-bariatric surgery has become more and more in-demand through the years. Also known as post weight loss surgery, I perform post-bariatric procedures to help patients who experience loose, sagging skin after significant weight loss. Post-bariatric body contouring can be a perfect way to help fully achieve the appearance you desire following weight loss. Below, I have answered a few questions about some of the post-bariatric surgery procedures that I perform.

Question #1: When should I undergo a post-bariatric surgery procedure?
The timing of a post-bariatric surgery procedure is definitely important when it comes to achieving and maintaining the best possible and longest-lasting aesthetic results. I advise all my patients to wait until their body weight has stabilized following their weight loss or post-bariatric surgery. Once you reach your goal weight and are able to maintain it for at least 6 months, a body contouring procedure can be of great assistance in fine tuning those areas.

Question #2: What areas will a lower body lift help rejuvenate?
A lower body lift is one of the most comprehensive and commonly performed varieties of post-bariatric  or weight loss surgery. Because it’s normal for a patient to experience loose skin in multiple areas of the body following their weight loss, a procedure like an arm lift that only covers one specific area may not be enough. A lower body lift is able to effectively rejuvenate the lower abdomen, buttocks, thighs, hips, and flanks.

Question #3: Will excess skin sag after undergoing post-bariatric surgery?
The results achieved from post-bariatric surgery are meant to be long-lasting. While this doesn’t guarantee that the patient won’t experience any skin sagging that results from natural aging over time, the patients can be confident that the skin removed during their procedure will not return.

Undergoing post-bariatric surgery is a major decision that requires careful consideration and consultation with an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon.
