Welcome back to the latest edition of our ongoing “Ask Dr. Whiteman” series. In my experience, the best way to learn about something is to ask an expert. That’s why I am always willing to take the time necessary to answer questions that I receive from prospective patients about plastic surgery, whether it be during an in-person consultation or in one of these blog posts. This month, I’ll be discussing a range of plastic surgery topics including eyelid surgery, breast revision, and rhinoplasty.

best atlanta plastic surgeon 2019Question #1: Are there any complications or risks associated with Eyelid Surgery?

Any surgery has risks and any plastic surgery procedure comes with some modest degree of risk. However, it’s important to remember that complications after eyelid surgery are very rare and also very minor in cases when they do occur. Possible complications include visible scarring, eye dryness, and the possibility of infection. In my experience, the satisfaction rate among eyelid surgery patients is overwhelmingly positive. The best way to reduce your risk of complications during eyelid surgery, is to find a board-certified plastic surgeon who has experience performing eyelid surgery to perform your procedure.

Question #2: What are my options after experiencing a breast implant rupture?

A ruptured breast implant is rare, but it can happen. In these cases, the patient’s options include breast implant removal or breast revision surgery. During breast revision, I am able to safely remove the damaged implant (as well as scar tissue that has formed) and replace it with a new undamaged implant to help restore the patient’s desired breast appearance.

Question #3: Is it true that performing nose exercises can help reshape the cartilage in my nose?

Unfortunately not. In order to achieve any meaningful change to the shape of your nose, some form of rhinoplasty procedurewill be required. During the procedure, I am able to carefully sculpt and re-shape the nose based on the specific preferences of each patient I work with. Some patients may be able achieve the results they want with a non-surgical rhinoplasty using facial filler injections, but we will discuss all of your potential options during a rhinoplasty consultation.

I hope you found these answers informative. I understand that when it comes to a plastic surgery procedure, every patient will inevitably have their own unique questions, concerns, and curiosities. This is why I take the time necessary during plastic surgery consultations to address anything my patients want to know about their respective procedure and the results that they can expect to achieve.
