There are a number of reasons why the mommy makeover has remained so popular over the years. One of the reasons is the comprehensive body contouring results this combination surgery is able to provide patients. Another reason is the customizability a mommy makeover allows patients to have. During a mommy makeover procedure, I perform a tummy tuck (using my Scarpa fascia technique for the waist narrowing), liposuction, and a cosmetic breast surgery. Part of what I love about performing mommy makeovers is helping each individual patient find the procedure options that will help them achieve the rejuvenated appearance they desire. But this requires the patient to fully understand all of their options. That’s why I am taking some time to answer common questions about how patients can get the most out of their mommy makeovers through customization.
I’m having a hard time choosing between a breast lift and a breast reduction as part of my mommy makeover. Which would you recommend?
Sincerely,
“H”
Dear “H”,
This is a very common question; however, there is no “correct” answer. To determine which cosmetic breast surgery option you should undergo, you must first determine what benefits you are trying to achieve. A breast lift can improve the breast contour by addressing sagging or drooping breasts. During surgery, excess skin is removed and the breasts are reshaped and lifted to provide perkier, younger-looking breasts. A breast reduction is designed to reduce the overall size and volume of the breasts by removing excess tissue, fat, and skin. It is not uncommon to perform both procedures at the same time if that is the patient’s preference.
Dear Dr. Whiteman,
In your opinion, what areas should a patient focus on for liposuction during their mommy makeover?
Sincerely,
“B”
Dear “B”,
That’s totally up to you. This will depend on your specific problem areas and if they have enough fat to be removed with liposuction. While it’s true that most mommy makeover procedures involve using liposuction to remove unwanted fat, the areas treated with lipo vary significantly from patient to patient. Generally, the most common areas for liposuction include the hips, abdomen, legs, buttocks, or arms.
Dear Dr. Whiteman,
Are there any mommy makeover options that can lead to shorter recovery times?
Sincerely,
“S”
Dear “S”,
Regardless of which procedure options you end up selecting, your mommy makeover recovery will be essentially the same. However, by combining procedures, a mommy makeover allows patients to reduce their overall downtime for recovery, no matter which surgery options they ultimately choose. The most important thing is finding the treatment options that will best help you attain the new body contour that you want.
