Pregnancy and childbirth can be among the greatest joys of any woman’s life. However, the physical changes a woman’s body experiences during pregnancy, or simply as a result of natural aging, can leave some longing for their fitter, younger, pre-baby body. Thankfully, there is a solution. A mommy makeover combines three outstanding cosmetic surgery procedures to help women rejuvenate their figure. To help enlighten prospective patients, I have answered a few common questions about who might be a good candidate for a mommy makeover procedure.

What’s the Difference between a Mommy Makeover & Grammy MakeoverWhen does it make sense to consider a mommy makeover instead of just a single procedure?

As women age, certain unwelcome changes to the body including breast sagging, loose skin around the abdomen, and stubborn diet-resistant fat can begin to emerge. A mommy makeover can be ideal for women who seek comprehensive body contouring to treat a multitude of these concerns. By combining a tummy tuck (using my Scarpa fascia technique for waist enhancement), liposuction, and a cosmetic breast surgery, a mommy makeover can help patients by providing aesthetic improvement that may not be achievable with only one cosmetic procedure.

How long after having a baby should I wait to undergo a mommy makeover?

I typically recommend patients wait 3 – 6 months after they have stopped breastfeeding and reached their post-pregnancy goal weight before undergoing a mommy makeover. After giving birth, it takes time for the body to return to its pre-pregnancy form and it’s important to leave plenty of time for rest following childbirth. I also recommend that patients wait until after they are finished having children before considering a mommy makeover, as additional pregnancies can compromise the results of your mommy makeover and create the need for additional procedures down the road.

Are mommy makeovers only for mothers?

Don’t be thrown off by the name. A mommy makeover can still be incredibly helpful for women who have not had any children. While it’s true that pregnancy can lead to issues like stretched, excess skin and breast sagging, many women may experience these same concerns naturally over time due to weight fluctuation, changes in hormone levels, or natural aging.

After performing mommy makeovers for many years, I have seen firsthand the amazing, often life-changing results this procedure can provide patients. No two women are the same and every patient will inevitably have their own unique aesthetic issues and goals. That’s why it’s so important to find a board-certified plastic surgeon with experience performing mommy makeovers that you can trust and depend on to provide the aesthetic results that you deserve.
