The world of cosmetic surgery is always changing, as new procedures and surgical techniques are developed and put into practice. Still, despite the constantly evolving environment, certain staples remain at the forefront for patients who wish to improve their appearance. In my personal experience performing cosmetic surgery procedures, facelift surgery is one such staple. However, although facelifts have remained in-demand through the decades, there are still things that many patients may not understand about what this procedure can and cannot do. That’s why I wanted to answer a few common questions about facelift surgery.
Question #1: How do I know if I’m a good candidate for a facelift?
In order to truly determine if you are a good candidate for a facelift, you will want to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon with experience performing facelifts like myself. However, there are certain qualities that every prospective facelift patient should have. This includes visible signs of aging like excess skin and lax muscles in the lower portion of their face. It’s also important for facelift patients to have realistic expectations and a positive attitude about their procedure.
Question #2: How long of a recovery should I expect after facelift surgery?
The procedure is not considered painful and most patients feel quite well after just a few days of recovery following a facelift. Some swelling and bruising is common after the procedure, but these effects are temporary. Facelift patients can typically return to work after 1 – 2 weeks of recovery. However, it may take up to six weeks (or longer) to see the final results of your facelift. Visible scarring after a facelift is very rare. We will review this all in more detail at the pre-surgery consultation appointment.
Question #3: How long can I expect my facelift results to last?
The results from a facelift are expected to be excellent and long-lasting. While undergoing a facelift obviously cannot stop the natural aging process, it can be extremely effective for refreshing the face and relieving years of premature age signs.
