A mommy makeover combines multiple body contouring surgeries like a tummy tuck, liposuction, and cosmetic breast surgery into one combination procedure to provide comprehensive and long-lasting rejuvenation all over the body. However, due to the complex nature of a mommy makeover, there is much for potential patients to understand before any decisions can be made. This is why I was happy to answer a few common mommy makeover questions that I have received from patients over the years.

Question #1: How much time should pass after pregnancy before pursuing a mommy makeover?

Every woman’s body reacts differently to pregnancy and childbirth, but I normally recommend for patients to wait about 6 months after they have stopped breastfeeding before considering a mommy makeover. It’s critical to not only allow the body the necessary time to recover and regain strength but also for the patient to reach their ideal weight before a mommy makeover should be done.

Question #2: How old do I need to be before undergoing a mommy makeover?

To me, there is no minimum age threshold. As long as the patient is a legal adult and experiencing aesthetic concerns like loose, excess skin and pockets of stubborn fat, they can be a good candidate for a mommy makeover. I go over all the relevant factors that would allow or prevent a woman to undergo this procedure during mommy makeover consultation appointments here in my office.

Question #3: Does a mommy makeover have to include three procedures?

No. The components of each mommy makeover depend on the specific needs and wishes of each patient. For instance, some patients may prefer to add an additional a-la-carte procedure like an arm lift, or even nonsurgical cosmetic treatments. Others may only need a tummy tuck and breast lift and nothing else. The most important thing is that the procedure is safe and that the patient is truly satisfied.

After performing mommy makeover procedures for many years, I’m always so happy to see the joy and relief that these procedures can provide.
