One of the crucial aspects of undergoing cosmetic surgery that I feel does not get talked about enough is the timing of when a patient decides to undergo their procedure. While it’s true that there is no such thing as a bad time to want to look and feel your best, there are definitely situations when it may make sense to wait. Since I receive many questions from prospective mommy makeover patients about what is the best time to undergo this combination procedure, I thought I would answer a few for my readers.
Question #1: Is mommy makeover surgery only available to older women?
No. Adult women of all ages may experience aesthetic concerns like loose or excess fat and skin that create the desire for mommy makeover surgery. As long you are an adult in good mental and physical health, there is no age restriction on a mommy makeover.
Question #2: Can I undergo a mommy makeover and still get pregnant again?
Yes, undergoing a mommy makeover will not limit your ability to get pregnant in the future. However, I warn all of my prospective mommy makeover patients during their consultations that becoming pregnant after surgery can negatively impact the results of your mommy makeover. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, and weight fluctuations often cause the excess skin, breast sagging, and other issues you’re trying to repair, and future pregnancies will re-create these problems again. This could lead to the need for additional procedures in the future to re-achieve the results of your initial procedure.
Question #3: How long should I wait after having a baby to undergo a mommy makeover?
Every woman is different so the timetable may vary. However, I typically recommend for women to wait between 3 and 6 months after they have stopped breastfeeding and reached their post-pregnancy goal weight before considering a mommy makeover. It’s important to give the body the time it needs to fully heal and recharge after pregnancy and childbirth.
