The goal for each of our Atlanta breast augmentation patients is to achieve a natural-looking, well-proportioned figure. Choosing breast implants in the appropriate size is critical. At your initial breast enlargement consultation, we will evaluate your goals in terms of your current physical attributes and then take a variety of measurements to determine your ideal breast implant size.
Southern Plastic Surgery in Atlanta, Georgia, offers breast augmentation with saline and now, thanks to a recent FDA decision, silicone gel breast implants to enhance the shape and size of a woman’s breasts. Achieving a balance between breast size, body type, and figure is critical to the success of your breast augmentation. Our Duluth office, in the greater Atlanta area, uses breast implants specifically selected to give you results that are both beautiful and completely natural.

Saline breast implants, as the name implies, are filled with sterilized salt water surrounded by a strong silicone elastomer shell. They have been the industry standard for over a decade, and have been used in thousands upon thousands of breast enlargement cases successfully. As salt water is found naturally in the body, there is little health concern if the implants should leak or burst, as the saline is simply absorbed into the body.

In 1992, the FDA suspended the use of silicone breast implants, due to a lack of long-term data on their safety. After 14 years of clinical studies, the FDA has lifted the moratorium on these types of breast implants, and declared them safe for use in all breast augmentation procedures by qualified doctors.

It is very important that the sizing of breast implants be individualized to each patient. Unlike the way most people think about breast sizes in terms of A, B, C, or D cups, breast implant size is determined by how many cc’s or cubic centimeters of volume they hold. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, an average of 189 cc of saline is needed to increase a patient’s breast size by one “cup.” But implants look different on everyone; what worked for your friend may not be the solution for you. Various aspects of a person’s body, such as their height, their rib cage size, the size of their overall body frame, body weight, previous breast size, etc. are important contributing factors to finding the right size implant. Apparent size of the implant also depends on the profile and shape of the implant; a low profile implant will sit lower on the chest and will look smaller than the same size implant that is high profile. Dr. Whiteman will use his years of experience to consider all these factors and work to achieve the perfect breast size and shape for you.
During your initial consult at our office near Atlanta , Georgia, you and Dr. Whiteman will discuss your breast augmentation procedure, including your goals for the surgery and your medical history, and Dr. Whiteman will give you a physical evaluation. He will discuss different breast enlargement techniques and implant options with you, and offer you his recommendations.
Once you and Dr. Whiteman have settled on the right breast implants for you, he will discuss your surgical options. Breast enlargement surgery usually involves discreet incisions in the crease beneath the breast, around the areola, or underneath the arm. Breast implants are most commonly placed beneath the pectoral muscles for a more natural result.
There is no way to know which method of breast enlargement will work for you, or which type of breast implant will be best for your situation, without Dr. Whiteman first conducting a physical examination, discussing your goals with you, and explaining the possible risks and benefits of each type of breast augmentation procedure. In the meantime, we invite you to explore our patient glossary to find out more about breast enhancement.
