If you’ve been debating whether or not to get your breasts enhanced, now’s the time to take your first step to achieving the look you really want. In order to ease any apprehensions you may have, I have broken down the top common questions patients typically ask before/after undergoing breast augmentation surgery:

Q: Who is a candidate for breast augmentation surgery?
Breast SizeA: From graduation gifts to a mother of three wanting to restore her pre-baby body, breast augmentation is reserved for women of all ages. The ideal candidate should however be at least 18 years old and physically and emotionally mature.  Breast augmentation is ideal for anyone wishing to increase the size and volume of their breasts.

Q: How do you determine what size breast implants are right for me?
A: There isn’t a “one size fits all” method to choosing breast implants and the sizing of your implants is completely customized for you. During your consultation, we will discuss your personal plastic surgery goals, medical history, and different breast enlargement techniques and implant options that showcase the most natural looking results. To determine which type of breast implant is right for you, whether it is silicone, saline or gummy bear implants, I will take full body measurements including height, weight, rib cage size, and current breast size. Additionally, you can physically try on different implant sizes to test which size and type of breast implant will help best achieve the look you desire.

Q: How long do implants last?
A: Breast implants have the possibility of lasting a lifetime. However, manufacturers do not consider them “lifetime devices.” It is important to attend follow-up appointments with your plastic surgeon and contact him or her if you have any questions or notice anything unusual.

Q: How long does it take to recover from breast augmentation surgery?
A: Following your surgery, your breasts will be wrapped in gauze and an elastic bandage or support bra in order to minimize swelling and support the breasts as they heal post-surgery. Recovery time differs for each patient and will be discussed during your consultation. Multiple factors such as the type of incision you receive, or the type of procedure you have, determine the length of time you will have to wait before returning to everyday activities. A majority of patients are typically able to return to work within a week and can engage in physical activity within four to six weeks. By adapting a healthy diet and exercise regimen, you can maintain and improve your breast enhancement results.
