To help my patients gain a better understanding of what is most in demand right now and why, I wanted to discuss some recent trends in cosmetic breast surgery based on the most recent statistics released by The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). There’s no denying that current trends matter to many people interested in plastic surgery. While every patient will have their own unique goals, being informed about “what’s in” can help patients better understand certain procedure options that can help them achieve the new appearance they desire. This is certainly true when discussing cosmetic breast surgeries like breast augmentation, breast lift, and more.
Increases Across The Board
Despite a fairly uncertain economic environment, the market for plastic surgery was booming over the last year. And breast surgeries were no exception. In fact, breast augmentation, breast lift surgery, breast reduction, and male breast reduction surgery saw increases in the number of procedures performed compared to the year before. In total, over 25,000 more patients underwent cosmetic breast surgery in 2023 than did in 2022.
Millennial Patients Have Flocked to Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentations increased with millennial patients. Specifically those between the ages of 30-39. According to the stats, women in this age range accounted for 38% of all breast augmentation surgeries last year. This influx is consistent with younger patients being more open to plastic surgery in recent years, specifically for subtle and more natural-looking aesthetic results.
Implant Removal Is Very In-Demand
No plastic surgery procedure saw a bigger annual increase from one year to the next than breast implant removal (9%). This included breast implant removal and breast revision surgery where a person’s breast implants are replaced with newer, different ones based on the patient’s specific needs and preferences. 42% of these implant removals were done on women between 40-54.
While it’s a fact that tastes and preferences will always change over time, the desire for plastic surgery has never been greater across the board.
