woman-stuying-at-a-deskThe American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) recently published their most recent collection of plastic surgery statistics. I always find these stats interesting and love getting a more comprehensive view of the industry at large to see how these trends translate to our work here at Southern Plastic Surgery. So without any further ado, I wanted to present a few takeaways that I found intriguing from this report with my readers:

Cosmetic Procedures Are Back to Pre-COVID Levels

After an understandable lull in the wake of COVID-19, it seems like plastic surgery is back to a new, unprecedented level of popularity all over the country. In fact, plastic surgery procedures rose last year by 19% nationwide compared to the last pre-COVID year in 2019. This is obviously an extremely welcome and encouraging development as more and more people are back to seeking out the cosmetic rejuvenation that they deserve.

Body Contouring Breaks Away From the Pack

I wasn’t surprised to see that liposuction surgery was the most in-demand plastic surgery procedure in the last year. I was however a bit surprised to see how substantial the margin between it and the rest of the most common procedures performed. 4 of the top 5 most common cosmetic surgeries last year were body contouring procedures, with only eyelid surgery making the list among procedures for the face.

Breast Reduction Is Popular Among Younger Women

Breast reduction surgery is up across the board, but they are especially big right now among younger patients. Both women aged 19 and under (+141%) and women between 20-29 (+83%) saw massive increases in the number of breast reduction procedures performed last year, compared to pre-pandemic levels. The trend of women preferring smaller and more natural-looking breasts is clearly very real.
