For patients who are not quite ready for a surgical procedure, Dr. David Whiteman of Southern Plastic Surgery offers non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatments to address minor to moderate skin conditions. Dr. Whiteman offers various cosmetic injectables to reduce wrinkling and replenish areas of lost volume. For example, Botox® and Dysport® relax facial muscles to smooth wrinkles and furrows while facial fillers such as Restylane® and Juvéderm® provide volume. Recently, Dr. Whiteman added the newest facial filler on the market, Expression®, to his menu of facial rejuvenation options. Since this product is new to patients, Dr. Whiteman has answered frequently asked questions about Expression® below.expression facial filler atlanta ga

What is Expression® and where can it be administered?
Like Juvéderm®, Expression® is a smooth gel made of hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural complex sugar found in the human body, which is injected into any facial area to address the signs of aging. However, it can be used near the eyes, on the forehead, and on the cheeks to add volume. Shallow injections may also be made near the lips and nasolabial folds.

How is it different from other injectables?
Expression® contains a pathogen-free medium, Bacillus Subtilis, making it 100 percent free of animal-based materials. Upon injection, Expression® does not draw water to the site so there is minimal swelling and bruising. Since it is made of HA and natural substances, results can be reversed if patients are unsatisfied.

What is treatment like?
Expression® is available in a 1.5 mL syringe. Prior to injection, Dr. Whiteman will discuss treatment areas and expected results with each patient. Lidocaine is applied to areas of treatment to reduce discomfort. The full procedure takes about 10 minutes.

What kind of results should I expect?
Patients can see results almost immediately after the procedure. There is minimal downtime and most patients typically return to normal activity following the procedure. Expression® typically smoothes fine lines, wrinkles, and folds for 6-12 months after treatment.
