Once thought to be exclusively a woman’s game, recent years have shown us that plastic surgery is growing more popular with men all the time. With Father’s Day approaching, I thought it would be a great time to answer some of the more common questions I receive from male patients about popular cosmetic surgery procedures for men. Hopefully this will be instructional for any guys who are still on the fence about whether plastic surgery may be right for them.

FAQ’s About Common Cosmetic Procedures for MenWhat are the most common plastic surgery procedures for men?

According to stats collected by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) for 2016, liposuction is consistently the most popular cosmetic procedure for both men and women, due to its reputation for versatility and effectiveness. After that, the most commonly-performed cosmetic surgeries for men are (in order of their popularity) male breast reduction, eyelid surgery, neck lifts, and facelifts.

How much scarring will there be after male breast reduction surgery?

The scars left from male breast reduction to treat gynecomastia vary depending on a number of factors including the amount of fat and breast tissue that is removed during the procedure, as well as the elasticity of the patient’s skin. During male breast reduction, I try to make the smallest-possible incisions in hard to see areas on and around the chest to reduce the visibility of scars. In my experience, even patients who have larger breasts and more scarring following their male breast reduction are still very satisfied with their results.

Which facial procedures would you recommend for men trying to restore a more youthful appearance?

As I mentioned above, facelifts are very popular with men trying to turn the clock back and rejuvenate their face, but they are far from the only option. Eyelid surgery and rhinoplasty procedures are very in-demand with men at the moment, as are fat transfer injections. Fat transfer injections purify and re-inject a patient’s fat that is removed during liposuction to add lost volume to other areas including the face. Men may also want to consider a mini facelift of neck lift.

Are there any nonsurgical treatments for men that you would recommend for men trying to improve their appearance?

SculpSure® nonsurgical fat reduction can be perfect for guys trying to shed stubborn fat from areas all over the body. SculpSure® is FDA-approved to treat stubborn fat that diet and exercise alone may not be able to get rid of.

Men have more options than ever to achieve natural-looking aesthetic upgrades. Whether you are trying to shed stubborn excess fat, improve your physique, or undo some of the natural effects of aging, I believe plastic surgery can open up a world of possibilities for men trying to look and feel their best.
