Losing a significant amount of weight is a momentous achievement that should be celebrated. In many cases though, the work is not quite finished after weight loss. I have written many times about the ability of post-weight loss body contouring (or post-bariatric surgery) to help people fully accomplish their aesthetic goals. Sometimes post-weight loss surgery can be done after pregnancy, general, weight loss, or bariatric surgery. However, today I wanted to focus more specifically on mommy makeover surgery and the benefits that this combination of cosmetic procedures can provide patients after their weight loss journey.
Loose, excess skin is a very common issue for people after considerable weight loss. This is true in cases where the weight was lost naturally, as well as cases where a person has undergone a weight loss procedure like gastric bypass surgery. I perform post-weight loss surgery to help remove this skin and provide a more smooth and stream-lined body contour. In many cases, this excess skin is present in multiple areas of the body, which is why a combination plastic surgery procedure like a mommy makeover can be so helpful for these patients.
For anyone unfamiliar, a mommy makeover typically includes tummy tuck surgery, liposuction, and a cosmetic breast procedure of the patient’s choosing. The combined effects of these procedures can help women remove loose skin from the abdominal area and address breast sagging. The liposuction (if needed) can also help remove patches of stubborn fat that cannot be shed with diet and exercise alone. Since I often advise my patients who are curious about a mommy makeover to reach their goal weight before undergoing the procedure, the timing in these situations is essentially ideal.
How this weight is lost is immaterial to a mommy makeover procedure, however we do offer weight management services for anyone in need of assistance getting closer to their goal weight. Overseen by NESTA-certified weight loss specialist, Jackie Madison, our weight loss services include diet planning, as well as weight loss treatments like injectable weight loss medications and bioidentical hormone therapy.
If you have lost a lot of weight, there’s no sense in letting excess skin dampen how you feel about your new trimmer body contour.
