man-consults-with-doctor-about-breast-issueAs plastic surgery for men becomes more and more in-demand, it’s been interesting for me to track which cosmetic concerns are most pressing for both genders. And when it comes to men, few things are as commonly mentioned at plastic surgery consultations than man boobs. Man boobs, or male breast enlargement, is most often caused by a condition known as gynecomastia, which causes excess growth of glandular tissue in the chest area. The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ASAPS) estimates that up to 40% of American men will experience some form of gynecomastia in their lifetime, which shows this is nothing to be ashamed of. However, plastic surgery offers solutions for men who want to get rid of their man boobs.

Male breast reduction surgery has become significantly more popular over the last decade due to its ability to help male patients lose their man boobs once and for all. The procedure works by removing this excess tissue that causes the enlargement to occur. Depending on the patient’s needs, I will also remove some excess skin and fat from the chest area, in order to ensure the final result is a flatter, more masculine chest contour that is in symmetry with the patient’s overall physique.

I often like to offer my patients different options or solutions to their aesthetic problems when available. For some men, enlargement in the chest area may be the result of excess fat, and in these cases liposuction can be effective. However, there is no substitute for male breast reduction for men who experience true gynecomastia. Gynecomastia is caused by an excess amount of glandular tissue in the breasts. A healthy diet and exercises that sculpt the chest will not be able to reduce the excess tissue that causes gynecomastia. Additionally, there are not currently any effective non-surgical procedures, medications, or supplements that can successfully treat gynecomastia.

In addition to providing outstanding aesthetic results for man boobs, men who undergo male breast reduction surgery can rest easy knowing that their results will be long-lasting. While natural aging will obviously continue, whatever tissue is removed from the procedure will not grow back, meaning that there will be no risk of natural recurrence of gynecomastia over time. Although it’s important to keep up healthy habits and not take any recreational drugs or anabolic steroids to help maintain your results as the years go on.

I have been performing these surgeries for decades and know firsthand how frustrating living with gynecomastia can be for men. This is why I take such pride in being able to offer a proven solution that my patients can count on.
