There’s nothing strange about waking up with dark circles or bags under your eyes, especially after an especially late night or after having trouble sleeping. However, these effects that are temporary in our youth can often become more common or even permanent as we age. As the years go on, the tissues around the eyes can weaken, while the skin in this area can become thinner. This creates the appearance of “tired eyes” that can make a person look far older than they really are. Today I wanted to discuss the treatment options for tired eyes that I perform, including plastic surgery and a nonsurgical alternative.

Eyelid surgery is the most commonly-performed plastic surgery procedure for patients who wish to refresh the appearance of their eyes, and one of the most common plastic surgery procedures period. During the procedure, I am able to remove stretched skin and fat deposits from the upper and/or lower eyelids to rejuvenate the overall appearance of the face. However, not every patient needs both their upper and lower eyelids rejuvenated. Every eyelid surgery that I perform is custom-tailored to the specific aesthetic needs of each patient.

In some cases, a patient may look older due to the positioning of their eyebrows. For these patients, I may recommend brow lift surgery (sometimes known as a forehead lift). This procedure is done to help smooth the skin above the eyes, which can help address frown lines that make a person appear tired, sad, or angry. This procedure is incredibly helpful for patients wishing to look younger and more rested, but in a very subtle way.

Lastly, Botox® and Dysport® injections can also provide tremendous anti-aging results. By targeting specific muscles around the eyes and in the forehead, these injectable treatments allow the forehead muscles to lift the brows in a subtle manner, creating an overall lifting effect that can make the eyes seem more open and youthful.

In the video below, I discuss the cosmetic procedures that I perform that can help my patients achieve a younger-looking appearance by rejuvenating their eyes:

Considering how prominent our eyes are to our overall appearance, there’s no wonder that this is such a point of emphasis for so many of my patients. I feel confident that these outstanding options will be able to assist any patient trying to look and feel their best by refreshing their eyes.
