If I’ve said it once, then I’ve said it a million times: preparation is crucial for prospective cosmetic surgery patients. With so many options of different procedures, surgical techniques, and plastic surgeons available today, it’s never been more important for patients who want to achieve the best-possible plastic surgery results to put in the time and effort before their procedure. Even relatively simple procedures like rhinoplasty surgery to help correct the appearance of the nose require considerable preparation beforehand. That’s why I wanted to provide these steps to help prospective rhinoplasty patients get ready for their surgery.
Once you have deemed yourself a candidate for rhinoplasty, the next step towards improving your appearance is sitting down for a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon. During the consultation, we will examine your nose, discuss your medical history (including any past surgeries), and go over your aesthetic goals to ensure that rhinoplasty is the right surgical choice for you. I also utilize TouchMD technology during rhinoplasty consultations to help provide a visual guide to what patients can expect from their procedure. This will also provide you with the ideal opportunity to ask any questions that you may have about your procedure including how long the recovery period will be.
Lifestyle Changes
Your body must be prepared for plastic surgery. Certain habits and behaviors may have to change to help promote a healthy and safe surgery and recovery period. For instance, I advise all rhinoplasty patients to avoid smoking and drinking in the weeks before and after surgery. Taking aspirin and other blood-thinning medications can pose difficulties during surgery and recovery as well, but we will discuss this all during your pre-surgery consultation.
Adjusting Your Mindset
Preparing your mind for plastic surgery is just as important as readying your body. I always discuss with my patients how essential it is to come into any cosmetic procedure with an optimistic and hopeful mindset. While I understand that some pre-surgery anxiety is normal, remember that rhinoplasty is very safe (when performed by an experienced board-certified plastic surgeon) and the improved appearance you desire is within reach.
After decades of performing rhinoplasty surgery, I have seen firsthand the impact that even a slight tweak to the facial appearance can have on a patient’s self-esteem. If you think that you may be a good candidate for this procedure, I recommend coming into my office for a complimentary rhinoplasty consultation.
