The numbers don’t lie; eyelid surgery is more popular than ever with male patients. In fact, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), men in the US underwent nearly 18,000 eyelid surgery (also known as blepharoplasty) procedures last year. In my experience, eyelid surgery is one of the few cosmetic surgery procedures that I perform about as frequently on male patients as I do on women.

The popularity of eyelid surgery is due to this procedure’s unique ability to help refresh the appearance of the face by treating tired-looking eyes. When performing an eyelid procedure on a male plastic surgery patient, I use specific techniques to help preserve the patient’s more masculine facial characteristics. For instance, many men prefer to focus solely on the appearance of their lower eyelids. However, depending on the patient, I may not put as high of an arch on the outside corner of the eye as I might for a female patient.

When trying to find the right plastic surgeon to perform your eyelid surgery, seek out a board-certified plastic surgeon with experience working with male patients. During your consultation, I recommend asking to see before & after photos from previous male eyelid surgeries they have performed to see if they can help you achieve the results that you desire. I use TouchMD imaging technology to help eyelid surgery patients see preview of what they may look like following surgery.
