During plastic surgery consultations with my patients, a few very common questions will inevitably always come up. One of those questions is “how long will my results last?” And while I would love to be able to tell my patients that their new appearance after surgery will last forever, this simply is not reality. That doesn’t mean that the plastic surgery results that I deliver are intended to be short-lived. In fact, in most cases they can last many years. But forever is not an outcome that patients should anticipate or count on. With this in mind, I wanted to go into more detail on a few of the most common cosmetic surgery procedures that I perform and how long their results can typically last.
Breast Augmentation
I perform breast augmentation surgery to help women who want to enhance their natural breast contour by increasing the size and volume of the breasts. And while the breast implants used during a breast augmentation procedure can maintain their condition for a very long time, they are not designed to last forever. On average, breast implants last for about 10 years due to natural wear and tear. However, this can often be longer in many cases.
Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid surgery is an incredibly popular facial rejuvenation procedure due to its ability to help both men and women look younger by refreshing the areas around their eyes. However, undergoing eyelid surgery will not prevent the effects of natural aging from occuring in the years following the procedure. The results of an eyelid surgery procedure can last up to 20 years depending on the patient, but this can vary. As a general rule, it’s rare that lower eyelid surgery will ever need to be done more than once.
Tummy Tuck Surgery
Undergoing tummy tuck surgery can have a profound impact on a person’s physique by removing loose, excess skin and fat, while also strengthening the abdominal wall and repairing damaged muscles in the abdomen. Like other body contouring procedures, tummy tuck results can be very long-lasting (many years) if the patient takes a proactive approach to maintaining these results. That includes eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly, and avoiding smoking and other forms of nicotine.
