KYBELLA® (deoxycholic acid), the first and only FDA-approved injectable treatment to reduce fat under the chin.
Oh, the dreaded “double chin.” How does it seemingly appear out of nowhere? Why won’t it go away? Can it be remedied with diet and exercise? If you’ve ever asked yourself any of these questions, then listen up! There are several factors that can contribute to a man or woman’s double chin; age, genetics and weight gain are all possible causes. No matter how diligent you are about eating right and exercising, it just may not be able to do the trick. That’s why we are happy to provide FDA-approved Kybella® Nonsurgical Fat Reduction for the double chin.
According to a 2014 American Society of Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), 68% of people polled shared being bothered by their double chin (also referred to as submental fullness). As a double board certified plastic surgeon, I am always researching the latest techniques and products influencing the plastic surgery field. In the past, body contouring procedures were the only way to address fat that accumulated below the chin, but Kybella® has proven to be an excellent nonsurgical alternative.
Kybella® Nonsurgical Fat Reduction can also help reduce the patch of fat around a woman’s armpit known as the “bra bulge”. Kybella® treatments for the bra bulge are relatively simple, consisting of a series of small injections made near the armpit area. Once Kybella® destroys the fat cells in the bra bulge, they can no longer accumulate fat.
Instead of wishing away your unwanted fat, you can now safely and effectively treat it with Kybella® Nonsurgical Fat Reduction? If you’d like to learn more or schedule a Kybella® treatment, contact Southern Plastic Surgery today.
Q: Am I a good candidate for Kybella® Nonsurgical Fat Reduction?
A: Patients who are unhappy with the appearance of their double chin or bra bulge who may not yet be ready for surgical contouring procedures like liposuction are ideal candidates for Kybella®.
Q: How do Kybella® Nonsurgical Fat Reduction treatments work?
A: Think of Kybella® as a combination of body contouring and cosmetic injectable treatments. The main ingredient used is a naturally-occurring substance called deoxycholic acid that already exists in our bodies. This substance helps the body break down and absorb dietary fat. When Kybella® treatment is administered (during a 15-20 minute series of injections), it destroys the fat cells so they can no longer accumulate fat. After Kybella® treatment has concluded, patients will notice improved, younger-looking contours and reduced fat in the injected areas.
Q: Are there any risks associated with Kybella® Nonsurgical Fat Reduction?
A: Kybella® requires only minimal downtime for recovery. Common side effects include swelling, bruising, numbness, stiffness, or redness. Cold compression with an ice/cold pack and over-the-counter medicine is all that is really recommended or needed to help relieve any discomfort after treatment.
Q: How long will my results last?
A: Your Kybella® results may vary depending on the person and how much fat was treated. We typically recommend 2-4 treatments to fully eliminate the double chin, but some patients may need up to six for the best results. Most patients need 1-2 treatments for the bra bulge, but some may require a third. Once destroyed, the fat cells should remain gone, though patients should keep a stable, healthy body to maintain their results over time.
