I’m especially interested in the annual statistical report released by the Aesthetic Society and their specific date regarding cosmetic breast surgery. Keeping tabs on these trends allows me to help be more in touch with the preferences of my patients who come into the office curious about possibly undergoing a breast procedure. With this in mind, I wanted to share a few current trends in cosmetic breast surgery that I found interesting.

Breast Augmentation & Breast Lift Still Lead The Way

It’s no surprise that breast augmentation remained by far the most commonly performed cosmetic breast surgery once again last year. Breast augmentation with implants was the most in-demand breast procedure and the second most common cosmetic surgery of all last year behind only liposuction. It was also by far the most popular plastic surgery for all patients between the ages of 17-35.

Not to be outdone, breast lift surgery remained incredibly popular as well, accounting for over 165,000 surgeries last year. The number of breast lift procedures increased by roughly 70% compared to the previous year, likely due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Breast Reduction & Implant Removal

In recent years, I have noted that there is a real demand among women for smaller and more natural-looking breasts. This helps explain why both breast reduction procedures (over 82,000) and breast implant removal procedures (over 71,000) also saw meaningful jumps in popularity.

A Surge in Male Breast Reduction (Gynecomastia Surgery)

Male breast reduction surgery is also seemingly as popular as ever. This procedure, used to help men who experience gynecomastia, was the second most in-demand cosmetic surgery for men, behind only liposuction. Nearly 20% of all plastic surgery procedures for male patients were done to help alleviate male breast enlargement.

I hope that my readers found this as informative and interesting as I do. No matter the specific cosmetic breast procedure that you are interested in, meeting with an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon like myself, is the first step toward the aesthetic rejuvenation you seek.
