Getting ready for a cosmetic surgery procedure like a breast lift requires both mental and physical preparation. And speaking from decades of experience of performing breast lift surgeries, this preparation can take many different forms. Understanding the physical and emotional toll that undergoing a breast lift can take is critical to achieving long-term satisfaction with your results. That’s why I wanted to provide some helpful tips on how prospective patients can prepare for their breast lift.
Finding the Right Plastic Surgeon
The first step towards preparing is selecting the right plastic surgeon to perform your surgery. In addition to being board-certified and having experience performing breast lift procedures, it’s important to find a plastic surgeon who you genuinely like and feel comfortable with. After all, this is a collaborative process, and being able to effectively communicate with your plastic surgeon is absolutely essential.
Fully Understanding What a Breast Lift Can Do
It is incredibly important to speak with your plastic surgeon about all of your available cosmetic surgery options to confirm that a breast lift is the right choice for your aesthetic needs. Once you have confirmed that you are a good candidate for a breast lift, ask about different surgical techniques (including possibly using GalaFlex Mesh) to make sure your procedure is as customized to your specific needs as possible.
Prepare Your Body for Surgery
Before undergoing a breast lift, I advise patients to take certain steps to help them physically prepare for their surgery. In some cases, a baseline mammogram may be recommended before, and a few months after, a breast lift to monitor any potential changes in the breast tissue. Patients who smoke or use other forms of nicotine should stop at least three weeks before and after surgery to help promote healthy recovery and healing. The same is true for aspirin and other anti-inflammatory drugs that can increase bleeding. Although all of this information is typically covered in your pre-operative appointment.
With the correct preparation, a breast lift can provide outstanding, long-lasting aesthetic results for women who wish to improve the shape and positioning of their breasts.
