During consultations, I ensure that I will do my part in meeting my patients’ plastic surgery goals during your breast procedure, but I also remind you of the importance of properly following aftercare instructions, as well as sustain a healthy lifestyle, to help enhance results and reduce recovery time. Additionally, taking time to fully recover is just as important prior to resuming physical activity to further ensure optimal recovery.
There are multiple elements that determine the length of time you will have to wait before returning to everyday activities such as the type of incision you receive, or the type of breast procedure you have done. Whether you choose to have a breast augmentation, lift, reduction, revision, or reconstruction, most patients are often concerned about how soon they can return to exercise and if it will affect their results. Post-surgery, I will wrap your breasts in gauze and an elastic bandage or support bra in order to minimize swelling and support the breasts as they heal following your surgery.
To maximize successful results, I give my patients specific instructions on how to care for the surgical site, recommend medications, and discuss future follow up appointments. I recommend that patients wait 2 weeks before engaging in light physical activity and 4 to 6 weeks before returning to your regular workout routine. Depending on the incision type, and aftercare, results can be long-lasting, but can also be reversed if you experience a dramatic increase in weight which can cause the skin to stretch.
By adapting a healthy diet and exercise regimen, you will maintain and improve their results. Summer is the perfect time to get outside; revamp your exercise routine with fun activities that you can enjoy while losing or maintaining a healthy weight such as hiking, swimming, or playing tennis, golf, soccer, or even walking around the neighborhood.
