Cosmetic rejuvenation isn’t something that happens overnight. Being patient and following your plastic surgeon’s post-surgery instructions closely will help promote the best and longest-lasting results from your procedure. One thing that I like to remind my patients of is that there are certain tools available to help ease the plastic surgery recovery period and make it all go as smoothly as possible.

BRIJJIT System for Incision Care

We offer patients the option to use the BRIJJIT System for Incision Care instead of surgical sutures after some cosmetic procedures in our office. This unique medical device is carefully designed to ease post-surgery healing and reduce scarring after body contouring procedures like breast lift, tummy tuck, and more. The system works by using a tissue bridge that holds the surgical wound closed without applying any tension to the area. This helps promote more even healing and eliminates the need for traditional sutures and staples.

Compression Garments

Compression garments are a must after body contouring surgeries like liposuction, tummy tuck, and cosmetic breast surgery. Used as a means of effectively concealing the surgical wound and affected area, compression garments can significantly reduce post-surgical bruising and swelling. Additionally, wearing compression garments can help prevent blood clotting and aid the skin naturally adhering to its new contours and speed up the overall healing process.

Sun Protection Products

Keeping your skin protected from the sun is also critical in the days and weeks after plastic surgery. If you’re planning to spend any time outdoors, protecting your incision area with a broad-spectrum sunscreen that blocks both UVA and UVB rays is essential. Any sunscreen you use should be a minimum 30 SPF and ideally should be mild, hypoallergenic, and fragrance-free. Some silicone-based gel sunscreens can also help smooth surgical scars while reducing redness and itching from the area. We offer these kinds of sunscreens here at Southern Plastic Surgery and at Laser Lights Cosmetic Laser Center.
