Welcome back to our intern spotlight series. For this installment, we’re thrilled to put the spotlight on our newest Southern Plastic Surgery (SPS) guest resident, Tiffany. Tiffany is interning here at SPS while she finishes up her studies at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (GA-PCOM). We have loved having Tiffany in our office and have been constantly impressed by her professionalism and her natural ability to work with our patients. Her hard work and enthusiasm is present in everything she does. To help everyone get to know Tiffany a little bit better, we had her share some of her fondest memories with us and open up about what she has learned during her time here at SPS and where she hopes to go during her career in medicine. Here’s what she had to say:
How would you describe your internship in one word?
Inspiring
Which skills that you have learned do you think will be most valuable in your medical field?
The most important skill I’ve learned so far from Dr. David Whiteman is his honesty and level of care he takes when working with his patients.
What has been the greatest lesson you’ve learned so far during your internship?
I have learned that most patients just want to be heard and it’s incumbent on us to listen intently to their concerns.
What has been the biggest challenge of your internship so far?
So far, the biggest challenge has been handling patient’s emotions after anesthesia.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In Florida, post-residency, working in my own private practice.
What’s the best thing about interning with Dr. Whiteman?
It may sound cheesy, but getting to spend time with Dr. Whiteman and his staff. It has been one of the best office environments I have worked in and I am truly grateful to spend my time there.
What are your favorite hobbies?
I love to spend my time studying, being with my son, practicing mixed martial arts fighting, and running.
What is your favorite movie?
Good Will Hunting
Do you have a personal motto?
Good, better, best. Never let it rest. Till your good is your better and your better is your best.
If you weren’t practicing medicine, what would you be doing professionally?
I would be something related to working with people, like a social worker, therapist, or teacher.
What is your favorite weekend activity in Atlanta?
I love the outdoor festivals in the springtime in Atlanta! I just attended the recent brunch festival.
Pick one: Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch or Dinner?
Brunch! Though to be honest, I love all food at all times.
It’s never easy to say goodbye to any of our interns, who all begin to feel like family during their time here. But we are thrilled about our time with Tiffany and can’t wait to see what great things she will go on to during her career, whether it be in cosmetic surgery or otherwise. Having expertise is only one part of having a career in medicine. To really make it, a medical provider must be able to work well with patients and nurture relationships. We have no doubt that Tiffany will meet this standard and thrive regardless of where she ends up.
