Beyond BOTOX®: Popular Nonsurgical Treatments for Men

As I’ve previously stated in my BOTOX® for men blog post, the market for nonsurgical cosmetic treatments for men is absolutely booming right now. The number of cosmetic operations performed annually on men has increased 325% since 1997. Though that figure includes surgical procedures, the market for nonsurgical cosmetic treatments for men alone exceeded $5 billion in the US last year. Regardless of past notions or attitudes, these kinds of cosmetic procedures have just become part of the routine for anyone striving to show their best self to the world.

Beyond BOTOX® Popular Nonsurgical Treatments for MenSculpSure™

Sculpsure™ fat reduction and similar treatments for men accounted for $232 million in procedures last year alone. Sculpsure™ is FDA-approved and perfect for guys looking to get rid of stubborn fat quickly and effectively. Due to their non-invasive nature, Sculpsure™ treatments are quick, cause only minimal pain and require no downtime for recovery. During treatment, a laser heats the fat cells causing them to detach from body tissue. Results may be seen as soon as 6 weeks following treatment.

Other FDA-Approved Facial Fillers

Facial fillers for men accounted for an astonishing $2.7 billion in the US in 2015. While BOTOX® and similar injections accounted for roughly half of that, there are a plethora of other available products and treatments for men to choose from including:

Restylane® – A treatment designed to reduce deep facial wrinkles and remove facial lines. Perfect for any guy trying restore volume, smooth away the appearance of facial lines and rejuvenate skin. Composed of specially synthesized hyaluronic acid, a compound naturally occurring in the body, Restylane® is both safe natural.

Juvederm® – A facial filler produced from hyaluronic acid, similar to Restylane®. Perfect for treating deeper wrinkles on the face or areas that have lost volume due to age. Results typically last up to 6 months.

Dysport® – Developed as an alternative to BOTOX®. Dysport® works by injecting a highly purified protein into the face, which relaxes the facial muscles and leaves you with smoother, replenished skin. While Dysport® is used primarily for the treatment of wrinkles caused by expression lines, ask your healthcare provider if it can be used for treatment of migraines, eye and neck muscle spasms and excessive armpit sweating.

Laser Hair Removal

Laser Hair Removal is perfect for any guy who wants to achieve a smooth, hairless body without the pains of constantly shaving or waxing. Last year men in the US spent roughly $289 million on such treatments, a figure that is steadily increasing annually. Laser hair removal uses laser light energy to penetrate the hair shaft, actually killing the hair follicle beneath the skin. Perfect for men interested in removing or reducing hair on back, chest, stomach, shoulders and genital area.

Brotox®: The Men & Botox® Combo

Botox® has many fans these days. In fact, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) reported over 6.5 million Botox® treatments performed in 2015 alone. While these statistics don’t break down the differences between male and female patients, I can attest to the increase in men getting Botox® from my own experience. In the spirit of giving popular trends nicknames, Brotox® is what we use to describe men who are fans of facial rejuvenation with minimally-invasive wrinkle-reducing Botox® treatment. In case you’re new to the Brotox world, I wanted to share some of the best features and why more men should jump on the benefits of Botox®.

In more recent trends, men aren’t just getting Botox® by themselves. Many come to get treatments with their partners (male and female), friends, and even coworkers. Lots of men receive Botox® as gifts and even more appreciate the results especially in those times when preparing for major life events – like getting married. Pre-wedding Botox® has become a popular treatment for two, because couples like to come in together to smooth out their facial appearance before the big day.

Botox® treatment isn’t as intimidating as some may think – it’s just a quick, short series of injections into the upper third area of the face you’re most concerned about and nearly painless. You’re in and out in as little as 20 minutes and best of all – you don’t have to miss work or have the rest of your day interrupted. Botox® is also a great combination treatment used to keep the face looking youthful after undergoing facial plastic surgery. Whether prepping for a special occasion or sticking to a regular routine, Botox® treatments are popular because they continue to work for lots of men and woman for up to four months (it’s also worth mentioning it’s FDA-approved for ages 18-65).

This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the many nonsurgical facial rejuvenation procedures men have come to know and appreciate. Muscle-relaxing Dysport® and Xeomin®, plus dermal fillers like Juvéderm® and Restylane® offer some excellent benefits of their own – so much so that they deserve their own time in the spotlight. Popular Fat Transfer Procedures

Plastic surgery comes with a plethora of options – both surgical and nonsurgical. This diversity is great because it gives patients the opportunity to customize their surgical plan to not only help them get the plastic surgery results of their dreams, but it also gives them more of a say on how they choose to get there. One such procedure that has opened many doors for many plastic surgery patients is fat transfer. Best known as a procedure that harvests fat from a patient’s donor area (like their thighs for example), then goes through a purification process before it is skillfully reinjected into areas that need some extra volume. Most notably useful for the face and the body, let’s take a look at some of the most popular fat transfer procedures today.

SPS-Fat-Transfer

There are several benefits to fat transfer that body contouring, breast enhancement, and facial rejuvenation patients find appealing:

  • Fat transfer plastic surgery results are safe, natural, and long-lasting.
  • Is a noninvasive alternative to surgical procedures so the required downtime is significantly less
  • This procedure is a good alternative to temporary fillers but can also be used in conjunction with other nonsurgical facial rejuvenation treatments like Botox®, Juvéderm®, etc.
  • Fat transfer uses a patient’s own material so it greatly reduces the chance of adverse reactions that accompany any procedure where a foreign object is introduced into the body (for example, in the case of breast augmentation that would be the body’s reaction to new breast implants – although rare).

As fat transfer patients begin to heal, the injected fat creates its new blood supply where it is able to thrive in its new home. Successful fat transfer procedures can produce permanent results but for some patients, a percentage of the fat may not take to the new environment and may require touch-up procedures before desired results can be seen. To further improve this procedure, I’ve developed a new system for injecting fat in less time and less trauma (using a pulsating technique which reduces pain and potentially increases the fat’s survival). This is something we would discuss during your fat transfer consultation and revisited during any follow-up consultations we have scheduled to monitor your progress.
