Brotox®: The Men & Botox® Combo

Botox® has many fans these days. In fact, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) reported over 6.5 million Botox® treatments performed in 2015 alone. While these statistics don’t break down the differences between male and female patients, I can attest to the increase in men getting Botox® from my own experience. In the spirit of giving popular trends nicknames, Brotox® is what we use to describe men who are fans of facial rejuvenation with minimally-invasive wrinkle-reducing Botox® treatment. In case you’re new to the Brotox world, I wanted to share some of the best features and why more men should jump on the benefits of Botox®.

In more recent trends, men aren’t just getting Botox® by themselves. Many come to get treatments with their partners (male and female), friends, and even coworkers. Lots of men receive Botox® as gifts and even more appreciate the results especially in those times when preparing for major life events – like getting married. Pre-wedding Botox® has become a popular treatment for two, because couples like to come in together to smooth out their facial appearance before the big day.

Botox® treatment isn’t as intimidating as some may think – it’s just a quick, short series of injections into the upper third area of the face you’re most concerned about and nearly painless. You’re in and out in as little as 20 minutes and best of all – you don’t have to miss work or have the rest of your day interrupted. Botox® is also a great combination treatment used to keep the face looking youthful after undergoing facial plastic surgery. Whether prepping for a special occasion or sticking to a regular routine, Botox® treatments are popular because they continue to work for lots of men and woman for up to four months (it’s also worth mentioning it’s FDA-approved for ages 18-65).

This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the many nonsurgical facial rejuvenation procedures men have come to know and appreciate. Muscle-relaxing Dysport® and Xeomin®, plus dermal fillers like Juvéderm® and Restylane® offer some excellent benefits of their own – so much so that they deserve their own time in the spotlight. Are You Getting Your Beauty Sleep?

Have you ever had those days where you have woken up to puffy eyes after a night of little sleep?  A dulled complexion, dark circles under the eyes and noticeable bags are tell-tale signs that you did not get a good night’s rest.  In reality, the amount of sleep your body gets can determine physical affects that are longer-lasting than you may realize.  Double board certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Dr. David Whiteman discusses the importance of sleep in maintaining the face’s healthy glow and youthful appearance.skin-care-tips

Lack of sleep can affect productivity, memory, weight and aging.  When we sleep, our bodies go into “repair-mode” to mend the damage from daily activities by replacing old cells and stimulating new skin cell growth.  When our bodies are not able to get the recommended 6-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep, they become stressed and release increased amounts of the hormone cortisol.  The increase in cortisol can affect the skin’s collagen formation, which is beneficial in maintaining the skin’s elasticity and luminosity, and can lead to the formation of fine lines and wrinkles on the face.  Initially, bags and dark circles under the eyes can be superficially treated with make-up or skin care products.  However, as time progresses and the skin becomes lax it can make the face appear perpetually tired.

Dr. Whiteman often discusses with his patients the benefits of surgical and non-surgical facial rejuvenation options to correct visible signs of aging.  FDA-approved injectables such as BOTOX® address facial wrinkles by relaxing the muscles that cause us to frown to reveal a smoother, more relaxed appearance.   Dr. Whiteman also offers injectable facial fillers such as Restylane®, Juvéderm® and Dysport® as fast and effective treatments for patients experiencing volume loss in the eyes, forehead and cheeks, in addition to the treatment of fine lines and wrinkles.

For patients with more extensive signs of aging desiring more-permanent results, Dr. Whiteman performs eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) by removing excess skin and fatty tissue around the eyes to restore the face to a more youthful and alert appearance.

Why does pricing for Botox® and Dysport® vary so much from provider to provider?

Botox® and Dysport® have become wildly popular wrinkle treatments for patients wishing to reduce the appearance of forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet, and wrinkles between the eyes.  The active ingredient within these dermal injectables is a purified form of botulinum toxin A– a substance that works to temporarily relax the wrinkle causing muscles into which it’s injected.  Most Botox® and Dysport® patients report noticeable reduction of their wrinkles for two to four months following the cosmetic skin treatment.

Why does pricing for Botox® and Dysport® vary so much from provider to provider?Given the temporary nature of the treatment, facial rejuvenation patients regularly search for the best Botox® and Dysport® discounts to try and minimize the size of their ongoing investment.  Although, it’s important to understand that, just as the case with the cost of plastic surgery, there are many components involved in Botox® and Dysport® pricing.  Injectable providers purchase their products from manufacturer representatives in various quantities and varying solution dilution percentages (based on patient demand, practice budget, relationship with representative, etc.)   The providers (i.e.- board certified plastic surgeon or certified nurse injector) then charges for the product by the number of areas being treated, the number of units being used, or the number of syringes.

The best deal on Botox® and Dysport® treatment depends on the patient’s individual needs.  If a patient has deep set lines and extensive wrinkles, they may want to explore a provider who offers injectables priced per area as pricing by the unit will be higher (more wrinkle relaxing product is required for more expansive wrinkles).  If you’re looking to get rid of fine lines and wrinkles in numerous areas, price per area would not be the best option.  At Southern Plastic Surgery, our Atlanta Botox® and Dysport® pricing is simple: we charge a flat fee for unlimited treatment areas with one injectable.  With all of the media attention surrounding the treatment, it’s easy to become overwhelmed with all of the different offers.  One thing to always remember before pursuing facial injectables or any facial plastic surgery procedure is to thoroughly research your plastic surgeon.  A wonderful price cannot replace medical training and procedure experience.
