Tips for Keeping Your New Year’s Resolutions for 2015

As we say goodbye to 2014, it is that time of year to say hello to our New Year’s Resolutions. While many of us make big promises for the upcoming year, it becomes increasingly difficult to keep these promises to ourselves in the midst of our busy lives. Not unexpectedly, we often forget or give up within the first few weeks, if not sooner. So how do you stick to your 2015 resolutions? Southern Plastic Surgery, P.C. offers the following tips:

  • Tips-for-Keeping-Your-New-Years-Resolutions-for-2015Be realistic! You know what you are and are not capable of. While you may like to push yourself, be aware of what is realistically possible with your other responsibilities.
  • Make your goals manageable. You may have big dreams in mind for 2015, but make sure to break up this huge goal into realistic and manageable steps or benchmarks. For example, if you are trying to lose 30 pounds, break it down to working out 5 times a week or losing 8 pounds in the first 2 months.

I understand that maintaining a healthy diet and exercise regimen is not always easy. If you need that little extra push to jumpstart your healthy lifestyle plan, our in-house NESTA Weight Management Specialist, Jackie Madison is here to help. With the Lifestyle & Weight Management program, Jackie will help coach you through your pre- and post-surgery time period by teaching you how to commit to an active lifestyle, achieve weight loss and weight management goals, provide effective eating habits, manage your time and assist with battling stress.

  • Seek support. It is much easier to complete a goal if you have the support of a friend or loved one. They can offer encouragement or give you motivation to keep going. Team up with a buddy and track your progress together, and you will more likely see success. Besides friends, there are tons of mobile apps out there to help you out with tips on how to achieve specific goals while also tracking them.
  • Know it is okay to make some mistakes.People who experience a setback in their initial goal have a tendency to just give up and throw the entire goal out of the window. Just because you go on one vacation and spend more money than you should, doesn’t mean you should throw out your resolution to spend less money this year.
  • Tell people about it. If you announce your resolution to people other than yourself, you will feel more accountable in fulfilling it. Tell your friends, post it on your blog or Facebook, or join a support group. If you keep your resolution a secret, no one will know if you don’t succeed – giving you less motivation.
  • Don’t get discouraged. If 2015 comes around and you haven’t exactly lived up to your own 2014 expectations, use that as a learning experience and try again. You may need a more realistic goal or just some more motivation.

Atlanta Cosmetic Breast Surgery Explained

In my nineteen years as a plastic surgeon, I’ve discovered patients often pursue plastic surgery without knowing exactly what they need. With so many different plastic surgery procedures and variations of those procedures, it can be very overwhelming. That’s why I take time during patient consultations to listen to a patient’s concerns and explain their surgical options. I also try to help educate patients by offering information through my blog and social media. Since many women often inquire about which cosmetic breast procedure would meet their needs, I wanted to explain the diverse breast procedures available.

Breast augmentation surgery, the most popular cosmetic procedure in the US according to statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, involves the insertion of a breast implant to add volume to the breasts. Breast augmentation is the perfect option for women who desire larger breasts. Patients can choose the size of their implants, material (saline or silicone), shape (round or teardrop), and texture (textured or smooth). During a plastic surgery consultation, I will explain all of these options and offer recommendations based on the patient’s desires.

We will also discuss placement of incisions as well as placement of the breast implants (above or beneath pectoral muscles). Patients who have had breast augmentation surgery in the past and experienced complications, wish to exchange their implants for a different size, or just aren’t satisfied with results from their previous surgeon can benefit from breast revision surgery. I’ve recently started offering an additional technique for breast enlargement using fat injections, which involves using liposuction to remove excess fat from an area of the body, purifying the fat, and then injecting the fat into the breast to add volume.

Breast reduction surgery is a procedure designed for women with overly large breasts. Many women with overly large breasts suffer embarrassment along with physical discomfort. In fact, overly large breasts aren’t an issue limited to females as I often perform male breast reduction surgery on patients who suffer from gynecomastia. During breast reduction surgery, excess skin and tissue is removed and breasts are reshaped for a natural looking result.

Breast lift surgery is a procedure designed to repair sagging and drooping. Many variables can cause a woman’s breasts to sag such as weight loss or gain, pregnancy, and age. A typical breast lift surgery involves removing excess skin, repositioning the nipple and breast, and tightening the remaining tissue for a more youthful appearance. If the patient is happy with their breast volume, breast lift surgery can be performed on its own. However, breast lift can be combined with breast augmentation for women who wish to add volume, or it can be combined with breast reduction for women with overly large or sagging breasts.

At Southern Plastic Surgery, we understand each patient’s needs and desires are different, so we tailor each procedure to these specific needs to produce optimal plastic surgery results. Breast Revision Surgery Helps Patients with Previous Augmentation Complications or Change of Heart

southern plastic surgeryFor most women considering breast augmentation surgery, the thought of having to redo the surgery is probably the last thing on their minds. The reasons for breast augmentation revision are numerous, but the most common include capsular contracture, switching from saline to silicone implants (implant exchange), weight- or age-related changes, and cosmetic concerns.

While the majority of plastic surgery patients are pleased with their breast augmentation results, there are always one or two individuals whose results did not turn out as they expected. Heidi Montag, former reality television star, has brought this issue to the forefront of American gossip magazines as she recently talked about regretting her multiple plastic surgery procedures including liposuction, breast augmentation, rhinoplasty, chin reduction, brow lift, and buttock augmentation.

Dr. David Whiteman does his best to prevent these incidences through education and by discussing patient desires, needs, and expectations before surgery during a thorough consultation and determining which procedure would best benefit that person’s individual situation. Continue reading
