The Time is Right for a Mommy Makeover

Beach and pool season is nearly here. If you’re like many of us, you probably can’t wait to get out there and enjoy some fun in the sun after being cooped up through the fall and winter. Though for certain people, it’s not that simple. If you have struggled to regain your pre-pregnancy figure through diet and exercise alone, a mommy makeover at Southern Plastic Surgery can be just what you need to reshape your silhouette and make you more comfortable and confident than ever before.

By combining a tummy tuck with liposuction and a cosmetic breast surgery, my mommy makeover is able to target several common issues many mothers deal with after pregnancy. Mommy makeover surgery can be perfect for women trying to take a few inches off their waistline, while also firming sagging breasts and tightening their stomach.

If you’re still curious about how a mommy makeover can help you achieve the figure you desire, check out the video below in which I discuss the flexibility of the mommy makeover and how it can help women with a variety of aesthetic needs:

Women should only consider a mommy makeover once they are finished having kids, as additional pregnancies can negatively affect the results of your procedure. Since each patient’s body reacts differently to pregnancy and childbirth, a pre-surgical consultation is hugely important to determine the best procedures for your needs. For more information on the mommy makeover or to schedule your consultation today, please contact Dr. David Whiteman at Southern Plastic Surgery today. In addition to letting their voices be heard, this feedback allows us to make sure we’re doing everything in our power to make every patient’s experience as comfortable and satisfying as possible. Undergoing cosmetic surgery is a big decision and we know it’s common for patients to be anxious before their procedure. To help put your mind at ease, we’ve decided to share some thoughts and experiences from patients we have helped in the past.

“B”: Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) Patient*

Hear From Our Southern Plastic Surgery PatientsLike many mothers, “B” was frustrated by the way her appearance had changed after having children. Even after returning to their pre-pregnancy weight, many women are left with a “pooch” and/or sagging skin, especially after multiple pregnancies. Learn more about “B’s” tummy tuck story:

After having 2 children in 16 months I no longer recognized my body. At only 29 years old it was devastating. I went to Dr. David Whiteman for a consultation and for the first time I had so much hope and excitement that he could help me. It gave me the hope and inspiration to lose all my baby weight and more. At 30 years old I am in the best shape of my life. I could never repay Dr. Whiteman for the gift he gave me and my family. Every day I wake up with excitement and enthusiasm about my body and my future. Thank you so much Dr. Whiteman.

“K”: Breast Reduction Patient*

“K” wanted to undergo a breast reduction procedure due to back pain and posture issues she was having. She was nervous about undergoing her procedure due to a natural aversion to surgery, but had no regrets following her experience at SPS. Hear more about “K’s” experience below:

Dr. Whiteman and his staff are such top notch, first-class people that after my recent surgery I felt compelled to write and spread the word about my experience with them. Anything I write praising him and his staff who helped with my surgery really couldn’t do these folks justice. They are all just super. If you want an excellent, down to earth doctor with an incredible bed-side manner look no further than Dr. Whiteman. His staff is helpful and friendly and made my experience wonderful.

“S”: Cellulaze™ Cellulite Treatment Patient*

“S” visited SPS, for one of our newest and most advanced treatments, Cellulaze™ cellulite treatment. Cellulaze™ directly treats cellulite by addressing the three root causes (rigid connective tissue, excess fat beneath the skin, and thinning skin) from within. Here’s what she had to say about her experience:

Cellulaze™ cellulite treatment worked wonders for my stubborn cellulite. I work out and eat healthy, but couldn’t get rid of it. I had the treatment on Friday and was at work on Monday. I could not be more thrilled with my results. Dr. Whiteman and his staff always go above and beyond to make me feel welcome and comfortable.

Whether you’re planning on undergoing cosmetic surgery or a more minor treatment, it’s our priority at SPS to ensure that you have an exceptional experience. Before any procedure takes place, we’ll provide a complimentary consultation where Dr. Whiteman will listen to your concerns and help you determine which procedure is the right choice for you. Ask Dr. Whiteman

best-atlanta-plastic-surgeonI always enjoy answering questions my patients have about various cosmetic surgery procedures and treatments available at Southern Plastic Surgery. By sharing these exchanges, I hope I am able to both educate and encourage patients not to be shy if they have questions of their own. This week I’m fielding questions about three of my most popular cosmetic procedures: tummy tuck, liposuction & Radiesse® Hand Rejuvenation.

Dear Dr. Whiteman,

I absolutely hate the stretch marks and extra skin that I have after having two kids. Although the extra skin does not bother me as much as the stretch marks I have developed. They are most noticeable on my hips and under my belly button. Can a tummy tuck help me reduce these stretch marks?

Sincerely,

“S”

Dear “S”,

Although there isn’t a specific procedure for stretch mark removal, some stretch marks can be eliminated with procedures that involve skin removal like a tummy tuck. During a tummy tuck, excess abdominal skin is removed and (in some instances) the underlying muscles are tightened. Stretch marks below the belly button can be eliminated through tummy tuck surgery, but this will not eliminate stretch marks on your hips or on any skin left behind. If you have excess hanging skin on your hips/thighs, some of the bothersome stretch marks on your thighs could be eliminated with thigh lift surgery. If the stretch marks are red of pink in color, our laser treatments may be able to reduce the pigmentation to make the stretch marks less visible.

Dear Dr. Whiteman,

I had total body liposuction two weeks ago. I stayed the same weight during my first week after surgery, but I’m up three pounds from my pre-op weight in week two and I am experiencing some swelling. Can you recommend anything that can help reduce the swelling and prevent further weight gain?

Sincerely,

“J”

Dear “J”,

It’s important to remember that liposuction is NOT a weight-loss procedure. Liposuction gives patients better body contour and a shapelier silhouette, but is not meant to help you lose pounds. I do understand that seeing the scale move upward from your pre-surgery weight after having fat removed can be discouraging. That’s why I tell patients to avoid the scale during their first month after surgery. During this month, the body is in healing mode from surgery stress which can cause it to retain water (which could translate to increased pounds). Once the body realizes you are fine, the water weight should come off. Maintaining a balanced diet moving forward and following your doctor’s prescribed post-op instructions will also help you on the right track toward a healthy recovery. Additionally, wearing a compression garment on the treated areas following liposuction will help reduce swelling and allow your new body shape to heal evenly and smoothly.

Dear Dr. Whiteman,

I recently had Radiesse® hand rejuvenation treatments injected in my hands for the first time. The injector told me to massage my hands twice each night. Is this really necessary? Will the results of my treatment be dependent on my massaging?

Sincerely,

“K”

Dear “K”,

The main reason I encourage massaging the hands after Radiesse® hand rejuvenation treatment is to help smooth out bumps that can form after the injections are administered. Massaging helps make sure that the depressed portions on the back of the hand are adequately covered by the Radiesse® solution, so the veins and tendons appear less noticeably.

I hope I was able to bring some light to these subjects. If you have a question of your own, we encourage you to contact me, Dr. David Whiteman at Southern Plastic Surgery today.
