The results achieved with breast augmentation surgery are typically outstanding and long-lasting. However, that doesn’t mean that a patient will necessarily remain content with her new breast contour forever. Natural changes that occur over time after breast augmentation can affect the way a woman feels about the appearance of her breasts. For anyone who desires any additional changes to their breasts following breast augmentation, breast revision surgery can be exactly what they are looking for. This is a procedure where a patient’s original breast implants are removed altogether or replaced with new ones that better fit the patient’s new aesthetic preference. Additionally, sometimes breast revision can include a breast lift. For anyone unfamiliar with breast revision surgery and the benefits that it can provide, I have taken some time to address a few true and false statements about the procedure below.
Breast Revision Can Only Help Women Who Experience Complications With Their Breast Implants
This is false. While breast revision surgery can indeed help women who experience breast implant complications like capsular contracture or implant rippling, this is not a necessity to undergo the procedure. It’s natural for a person’s tastes and preferences regarding their breasts to change with time. Regardless of the reason for considering breast revision surgery, the results can bring enormous relief and satisfaction.
You Can See A Different Plastic Surgeon For A Breast Revision Procedure
This is true. I have heard from many women over the years who were concerned about what it would mean to go to a different plastic surgeon for their revision procedure than the one who performed their initial breast augmentation. Thankfully, this is a common choice among many women. I have seen countless patients for breast revision for many different reasons. Some had moved, others were looking for different options and others were not completely satisfied with a previous doctor’s work for one reason or another and I have had a very high satisfaction rate.
You Can Undergo Breast Revision Soon After An Initial Breast Augmentation Procedure
This is false. I think it’s important for patients to wait and ensure they have given the final results of their breast augmentation enough time to manifest before even considering breast revision. Additionally, it’s very important to give the body plenty of time to fully heal after surgery before undergoing any additional procedures. In most cases, I recommend waiting at least one full year (possibly longer) before pursuing breast revision.
