One of the most popular body contouring procedures for both men and women is liposuction. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), in 2013, 312,176 women and 51,736 men received liposuction. I frequently discuss liposuction with patients who are looking to eliminate excess body fat. Liposuction is not only performed as an individual treatment for fat reduction, but it is also applied in various cosmetic procedures including mommy makeover surgery, tummy tuck, facial plastic surgery, and buttock augmentation. In order to give you that coveted, aesthetically pleasing figure you dream of, I utilize the most advanced liposuction techniques available to provide you with optimal results.
Liposuction is recommended for patients who would like to remove small pockets of fat that do not respond to various amounts of working out and healthy eating. Remember that there is no such thing as a “perfect” body and imperfections are what make each individual unique. Whatever your “problem areas” are, liposuction addresses areas such as the abdomen, love handles, thighs, buttocks, and hips.
Depending on your cosmetic goals, we will determine which liposuction technique (tumescent, super-wet, power-assisted, or ultrasound-assisted) will best fit your needs during your initial consultation. Tumescent and super-wet liposuction techniques use a solution of tumescent fluid (saline solution and anesthetic) to be injected into the treatment areas to facilitate removal of fat and minimize blood loss. Super-wet liposuction uses slightly less solution for injection and is beneficial for patients as there is minimal blood loss and swelling. The power-assisted liposuction technique incorporates a special suction tube that vibrates during the procedure. The vibration loosens fat to allow for easier removal with less damage to the surrounding skin. Ultrasound-assisted liposuction uses sound waves in addition to fluid injection to liquefy fat and is effective for areas that require precision such as the face.
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is essential to maximize your body contouring results. If you need assistance, our in-house NESTA Weight Management Specialist, Jackie Madison, provides a Lifestyle & Weight Management program in which patients are coached through their pre and post-surgery time period to help achieve weight loss and weight management goals through exercise and effective eating habits. Our outside ACE Certified Personal Trainer Daryl Madison of Lifestyle Fitness can also help find a routine that works best for you.
While liposuction and other body contouring procedures can help you achieve personal cosmetic surgery goals, it’s important to remember it should not be a substitute for leading a healthy lifestyle. I continue to make every effort to communicate all information so that all of my patients completely understand the type of results they can expect, such as final results are always determined by your weight, skin tone and specific Habitus. I advise my post-surgery patients to always maintain proper nutrition and exercise regularly in order to preserve successful results.
