In my experience, while no two tummy tuck patients are the same, the overwhelming majority of them come to my office with very similar goals in mind. To remove excess skin and tissue from the abdominal area and achieve a more trim and fit-looking abdominal area. However, that doesn’t mean that all tummy tuck procedures are performed the same way. In recent years, the drainless tummy tuck has emerged as a terrific option for some tummy tuck patients. Today, I wanted to discuss the benefits of the drainless tummy tuck and which patients may be good candidates for this procedure variation.
A drainless tummy tuck utilizes both the technique of traditional tummy tuck surgery along with liposuction to provide outstanding body contouring without the need for postsurgical drains. For anyone unfamiliar, surgical drains are used after surgery to help clear any fluid that may accumulate between the skin and the underlying muscles after surgery. Since the drainless tummy tuck uses liposuction and multiple layers of sutures to seal the incision area, no surgical drains will be required.
In addition to the fantastic body contouring results that my patients have come to expect from tummy tuck surgery, a drainless tummy tuck also offers the following additional benefits:
- Additional fat removal from the abdominal area thanks to the liposuction component
- An easier recovery than a traditional tummy tuck without the need to worry about fluid output or drainage
- Less overall downtime for recovery in many cases
In my video, I go into more detail on the drainless tummy tuck technique and which patients may benefit from this specific type of tummy tuck procedure.
