I have been performing and consulting with patients about cosmetic surgery procedures for decades, and one thing that has remained common over the years is patients expecting a lot from their surgery. I take the time to explain to patients that this is not an overnight process. Some patients expect instant results after cosmetic surgery, but this simply is not possible. To help give prospective patients a better idea of what is realistic, I wanted to discuss what should be expected after undergoing eyelid surgery.
A recovery period is unavoidable following cosmetic surgery, and eyelid surgery is no exception. However, in many cases recovery after eyelid surgery is pretty straightforward and comfortable. Patients should expect bruising and swelling in the area after their surgery, but applying a cool compress on the eyes can help relieve these symptoms. Some people may also experience additional symptoms like puffiness around their eyes, feeling a tightness, sensitivity to light, blurred vision, or watery eyes. These symptoms are also temporary. In many cases, patients are symptom free a week or two following surgery and results will continue to improve in the ensuing months.
In the following video, I discuss in-detail what patients can reasonably expect after their eyelid surgery procedure:
Whether performed alone, or in combination with other facial plastic surgery procedures like a brow lift or facelift, eyelid surgery can provide truly outstanding and long-lasting results. For anyone who would like to rejuvenate the appearance of their face, the first step is booking a plastic surgery consultation to determine whether or not you are a good candidate for this procedure.
