What Is a Reverse Tummy Tuck?
A reverse tummy tuck, also known as a reverse abdominoplasty, is a specialized tummy tuck technique designed to primarily address loose skin, muscle damage, and other aesthetic concerns in the upper abdomen.
During the procedure, an incision is made within the natural crease just beneath the breasts. This allows the surgeon to lift and tighten the skin upward, reducing folds, rippling, and laxity in the upper abdominal area. Loose skin is removed, and damaged or separated muscles are repaired to create a tighter, firmer, and better-contoured upper belly and abdomen.
Who Is a Good Candidate for a Reverse Tummy Tuck?
Some good candidates for a reverse tummy tuck include:
- Individuals who have lost a significant amount of weight and experience excess skin or laxity in the upper abdomen
- Patients who have undergone overly aggressive liposuction that resulted in a “lumpy” or uneven abdominal appearance
- Women who have previously had breast augmentation and whose implants have shifted or become misaligned over time
