Like so many other aesthetic imperfections, patients who are interested in enhancing their breasts have more options today than ever before. As a double board-certified plastic surgeon, I pride myself on being able to provide my breast surgery patients with a litany of procedure options. One such option is fat transfer injections for the breast, which use fat that is removed from the patient’s body in place of (or in addition to) breast implants to help enhance the size and shape of the breasts. However, before this procedure can take place, there is a lot that prospective patients need to know.

Perhaps the most important thing for patients to be aware of is that fat transfer to the breast is only intended to provide a modest increase in breast size. Unlike breast implants that can significantly increase a woman’s natural breast size, fat transfer is meant to help patients who prefer more subtle, natural-looking results from their procedure. For some patients, combining fat transfer with traditional breast augmentation using implants is the most beneficial surgical approach. Because the fat is safely removed with liposuction and re-injected, the incision and post-surgical scarring is very minimal following this surgery.

In the video below, I discuss how fat transfer for the breasts can be an excellent procedure option for women who wish to rejuvenate their breast contour:

Although this approach to breast augmentation may not be right for everyone, I have seen firsthand how it can be the ideal solution for so many patients.
